Pros & Cons

  • The flexibility of being able to work either in the office or from home at whatever time we wanted, whether it's the regular 9-5 or 4-12, as long as you're doing the work assigned to you and attending all the required meetings. Additionally, the team I'm part of is very friendly. They are all happy to provide assistance and educate me when I need it.
  • The amount of responsibility and ownership of work you get early on in your career is great.
  • It's a progressive MNC in the telecommunications industry where I get to learn amongst experienced colleagues and develop technical skills. .
  • The best part of working for Ericsson is that the learning and development opportunities are immense. Our people are best in breed too.
  • Always learning new things, great culture and flexibility in way of working.
  • My role since being an intern has not been clearly defined.
  • There are lesser work opportunities [projects] as of now, and this wasn't the expectation.
  • The worst thing about my work is the instability in BAU project work, but I understand that this is a challenge for the entire ICT sector these days due to shrinking margins and breakneck technology transformations.
  • Software and AI/ML work is not as valued as it could be.
  • Many levels of approval for simple tasks.

I am very proud of our company's CSR commitments. There is a strong push for integrity in business dealings when working for my company. Employees are given leave to spend time volunteering in their community. This year, the graduates volunteered together at a food recovery organisation in Sydney and Melbourne. I have been able to contribute to events to support gender, cultural, and identity events. These events are held regularly to raise awareness and encourage feedback and advice to improve our CSR performance.

The company is very flat. There are very few levels of hierarchy between me and the people that I need to get my job done. Our team is highly collaborative. There are experts on hand who are very generous with their time. We share coffees and after work drinks often. My manager is very people focused and supportive. I've always been supported for any tools or training that I have needed.

The project and line managers are always open for a chat and will provide any assistance they can. They also give a lot of feedback and recognition.

The Melbourne Opera is great. Convenient location in Docklands (about to move to more central CBD later in the year), very clean, modern, and well-equipped (except there's never any cutlery!). Trip-end facilities and dedicated meeting and presentation spaces are a nice bonus. The dress code is very relaxed. Casual or "smart casual" is fine most days, unless meeting with the customer.

Very few graduates enter with industry experience or skills. The skills you learn will depend on the team you are put in and how prepared they are to train newcomers. I was enrolled in formal training for 5G and Kubernetes.

My company is quite flexible with office hours. There is a good trust between employee and company to manage our own time and decide when it is necessary to work from home and when it is necessary to come into the office. I really appreciate this aspect of working for Ericsson.

Our commitment to reduce energy consumption in today's mobile networks to reduce its effect on global warming and to go green is in full swing here @ Ericsson. These days we work closely with all our customers to achieve less emissions and a more sustainable technical solution.
